Theodor von der Beek

Theodor von der Beek (1838 - 1921) was active/lived in Germany.  Theodor von der Beek is known for Painting.

From 1857-66 the artist studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Wilhelm von Schadow and Eduard Bendemann.  Throughout his life he has been resident in Düsseldorf, where he painted genre scenes, portraits and numerous self-portraits. 

Von der Beek’s works have won awards several times, such as in 1877 and 1896 with the Great Gold Medal in London and in 1897 and 1898 with the silver medal.  His style can be classified as being in the tradition of the Düsseldorf School of painting.  Yet he was also inspired on various study trips through Germany and Spain.

His works are now owned by the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn, the Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History in Münster and by the museum in Wiesbaden. (nlu)
