Guan was born in Fanyu, Guangdong Province.  At the age of seventeen, he went to Japan, where he learned his painting skills at various Tokyo art institutions.  On his return home, Guan taught in various art schools including the Shanghai Fine Arts School and the Hangzhou National College of Art. 

His first solo exhibition was held in Chengdu in 1940, when he firmly established his distinctive portraiture style, featuring in particular famous Beijing Opera persons.  Among the many group exhibitions in which he participated are: Chengdu, 1942, at which he exclusively exhibited the a fore mentioned Beijing opera persons; 1945, Chongqing, at which Guan exhibited alongside master painters such as Lin Fenmian, Ding Yanyong, Zhao Wuji, Ni Yide, Pang Xunqing at the " Modern Painters' Exhibition" and in 1957, at the Berlin Academy of Science, East Germany, together with Guan Liang and Li Keran, all three of whom had been sent to East Ge   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1866 characters.]  Artist bio
