Julien Vignikin was born in 1966 in Benin.  Lives and works in Los Angeles.  A graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Dijon, Vignikin places the theme of the family and broken ties in the center of his works. 

The use of textiles refers to her mother.  The table is reminiscent of family sharing, and food refers to its dual Benin and French culture.  The artist thus transcends his personal experience and opposes these intimate subjects to the excesses of a world that increasingly opposes the North and the South...
