Ora Inge Maxim

Ora Inge Maxim (1895 - 1982) was active/lived in Massachusetts, Virginia.  Ora Maxim is known for Woodblock printmaking, seascape, landscape, marine and portrait painting.

Maxim was a shy girl born in Lynchburg,VA to a large family. She became a respected artist later in life after marrying and moving to Southeastern Massachusetts. She was not known to have had any formal art education other than what was offered by a typical public school until 1928 when at the age of 33 she began studying at the Swain School with Harry Neyland. She showed quick skill, winning a first prize in the same year for the best still-life. She furthered her education with F.Mortimer Lamb in Stoughton Massachusetts, George Torrey in New York City, and Michael Jacobs in Europe and North Africa.

Her early career was painting seascapes, landscapes, portraits and still life. In the early thirties, however, she was exposed to the Provincetown Printers and learned their white line technique from the renowned, Blanche Lazzell.
