Peter Dahl was a Swedish artist born in Oslo, Norway. He became politically aware at a young age and aimed to "strike the world with astonishment" through his art. Dahl often portrayed the flourishing society in gallant environments such as restaurants, theaters, and operas, as well as nightclubs and bars. 

He was inspired by the human behavior and had great psychological insight, which he portrayed in his paintings. Dahl's role models in art were older teachers such as Edvard Munch, Francisco Goya, Nicolas Poussin, and François Boucher. 

He had a breakthrough as an artist after a critically acclaimed exhibition in 1982 at the Artists' House in Stockholm. Dahl's paintings are represented in several museums in Sweden, and he is considered one of the foremost in Swedish contemporary art.
