Rolf Hanson is a Swedish artist born in the early 1950s. He belongs to the generation of Swedish artists who started at art schools during the 1970s, which was a hostile period towards aesthetics. Hanson's artistry is rooted in the national romantic landscape tradition, late romanticism, and symbolism, while his technique and expression are strongly influenced by the emerging powerful painting of the 1950-60s. He is known for his bold and individualistic painting style, which is strongly influenced by abstract expressionism and the national romantic landscape tradition. Hanson's painting has generated interest since his first major solo exhibition at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1985. He has had several museum exhibitions, including "Rolf Hanson Retroactive" in 2021 at Artipelag outside Stockholm, which is the most comprehensive exhibition to date of his art, including four decades of activity.
