Zilan Guan

Zilan Guan (1903 - 1986) was active/lived in China.  Zilan Guan is known for Painting.

Guan Zilan was born in Shanghai 1903 and was one of the most famous female artists in the Chinese Republic.  She studied at the western painting department at Shanghai China University.  She was a painter who accepted Fauvism in China earlier than others, and was a student of the well-known oil painter Mr. Chen Baoyi, by whom she had been deeply influenced in regard to the contrast between colors and tones that made her style gorgeous.

The famous Shanghai magazine called Good Friend during the 1930s regarded her as the "leader" among female artists. She was very active and held many solo exhibitions in Shanghai at that time.

After the formation  of the New China, she created many oil paintings that reflected new life and participated in local or national art exhibition held in Shanghai and Beijing.  Many of her oil paintings were collected by the Association of China Art Museum.  Guan Zilan died on June 13, 1985 and was 82 years old.
