Ernst Johan Zeuthen

Ernst Johan Zeuthen (1880 - 1938) was active/lived in Denmark, Italy.  Ernst Zeuthen is known for Color field marine and landscape painting, portraits.

Ernst Johan Zeuthen was a Danish painter and graphic artist. He studied and worked as a naval architect in Gothenburg in 1903; took drawing lessons from Agnes Jensen in the years 1908-09; and registered to Artist's Free Study Schools by Johan Rohde in 1909.

He exhibited for the first time in the 1912 Autumn Exhibition where he won a gold medal and was invited to exhibit at the royal palace. During working trips to Italy, France, Norway and Switzerland, and while stationed as a naval architect in the United States, (1906 - 1908), Zeuthen developed and rose as a painter known for color field landscapes and Italian views.

In Italy, Zuethen was first inspired and attracted to classical landscape paintings by, among others, Giotto di Bondone. Zeuthen's "lines of color," interpreting the meaning of nature and god can be seen directly in his linocuts, based on photos of Giotto di Bondone and even more clearly in paintings such as Sol Over Hundested.
