Yi Wu

Yi Wu (Born 1966) is active/lives in China.  Yi Wu is known for Painting.

Born in Changchun, Jilin in 1966, Wu Yi entered the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 1985 to study traditional Chinese painting under Lu Chen.  After graduating from the Academy in 1989, he taught briefly before returning to the Academy for advanced studies.

He now serves as an associate professor in the Mural Painting Department at the Academy.  Wu Yi paints figures from the past following the Chinese portraiture tradition with fluid lines and subtle colors.  Viewed from a contemporary perspective, the Qing scholars and Chinese guerillas painted by Wu are endowed with a strange sense of contemporality.
