He studied at the Academy Berlin with Blank, Krause and Kahle, and further educated at the Academy Königsberg. From 1925-35, he regularly painted in the artists' colony Nidden and the Curonian Spit. In 1946, he became a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Berlin. Schlichting is represented in the Museum Cuxhaven and Schwerin. He was active in Berlin and occasionally on Sylt.
