Richard Ernesti

Richard Ernesti (1856 - 1946) was active/lived in Colorado, Washington.  Richard Ernesti is known for Mountain landscape and Indian painting, teaching.

German born, Richard Ernesti had a painting and teaching career in Colorado and Washington state.  He did paintings of Indians and mountains and served as Director of Art Education for the Colorado schools.  He also was a teacher at Colorado State College, Pennsylvania State College and Drake University in Des Moines.

He was married to painter Ethel Ernesti.  In Colorado, his paintings of the Rocky Mountains were popular with tourists.  Apparently he also traveled to Arizona as his work was owned by J.L. Hubbell who ran the trading post from the late 1870s to the 1930s in Ganado on the Navajo Reservation and who collected work from artist visitors.
