Mercedes Ruibal was a Galician painter born into a family of artists. She trained with Laxeiro in Buenos Aires and held her first exhibition there. Her style is characterized by archaic and naive primitivism with forms tending to expressionism. She worked on children's themes and maternity wards, but her style evolved towards more complex compositions, including those mutilated from the war in Vietnam and Bosnia, bullfighting, and characters from Classical Greece. Ruibal's fame led her to exhibit not only within the Galician and Madrid scene but also in other European cities
