Frank Meinhart

Frank G. Meinhart (1874 - 1947) was active/lived in Montana.  Frank Meinhart is known for Wildlife, Indian portraits and western scene painting.

A self-taught painter, he concentrated on wildlife and Native American portraits. Meinhart lived in Montana for almost 50 years, and exhibited at small venues across that state. His work was also included in the Victory Poster Contest at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC during World War II.

Born on March 16, 1874 in St. Louis, Missouri, he moved to Butte, Montana, where he became a sign painter for a local paint company, and began taking contract painting jobs after a few years. He ran his own sign painting business there beginning in 1910 and drew additional income from cattle ranching.

Meinhart married Louise Espenscheid in St. Louis, Missouri on March 1, 1905, and the family lived in Butte until about 1927, when they relocated to Hamilton, Montana. Their only child, their son Russell, died at the age of eight, and Frank Meinhart died in Hamilton on May 20, 1947.
