Artist Aleksander Kobzdej lived from 1920 - 1972. Aleksander Kobzdej was born in Olesko in Ukraine. From his early childhood he lived in Lviv, where in 1939 he earned his high school diploma. While in in high school, he learned drawing and sculpture privately. In the autumn of 1939, he began studying architecture at the Lviv Polytechnic and at the same time began to paint under the supervision of Wladyslaw Lama. Under both occupations, Soviet and Nazi, he took up paid jobs, continuing his studies as much as he could. In 1944 he was sent to forced labor in Vienna, from where he escaped to Yugoslavia. In 1945 he returned to the country. He briefly studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under Eugeniusz Eibisch, and at the end of 1945, he would become the assistant of his former teacher, Wladyslaw Lama, at the Faculty of Architecture of the Gdansk University of Technology.
