Werner Neuhaus

Werner Neuhaus (1897 - 1934) was active/lived in Switzerland.  Werner Neuhaus is known for Painting.

Werner Neuhaus moved with his family from Burgdorf to Basel at the age of 13. After finishing secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer and attended the Basel Gewerbeschule in 1920/21, studying with Albrecht Mayer and Arnold Fiechter, among others. His early landscapes and portraits are committed to a dark-toned style of painting that was common for the Basel school around Paul Basilius Barth at the time. In 1921/22 Neuhaus spent about a year as a student of Cuno Amiet on the Oschwand. In 1923 he moved into his own studio in Binningen near Basel and established friendly contacts with Albert Müller and Hermann Scherer, with whom he spent the summer months in Ticino. The contact with his fellow painters led to a stylistic reorientation towards an area-emphasizing, coloristically intensive style of painting. During this phase he mainly painted panorama-like Ticino landscapes and portraits of friends and acquaintances.
