Ulrich Rückriem was born in 1938.  The German sculptor, who is living in Cologne, is an important representative of minimalism and concept art.

At the start of the 1960's, and after traveling in Southern Europe, and Northern Africa, Ruckriem decided to dedicate his life to sculpting.  In 1963, his first solo show took place in Leopold-Hoesch Museum in Düren.  He participated in several important exhibitions, such as documenta 5, 7, 8 and 9 in Kassel.

The artist prefers to work with stone, iron, and wood.
