Stay High 149 is an urban art artist born in 1950 in New York.  His passion for tags began in the subway.  He quickly developed his own style by practicing to write his own name, becoming one of the pioneers of graffiti with Taki183, Phase 2, and JOE 182 PRAY, whose work inspired him. 

In 1972 he added the nickname "Smoker" in his name, and the number of the street (149).  A fan of the British television series The Saint (Roger Moore in which the actor plays the role of Simon Templar), he added to his signature the small figure of Smoker, an appropriate representation from that of the cult series, to be smoking a joint. 

From there was born the nickname Stay High 149, given by his best friend because of its strong marijuana reference.  This tag subsequently became one of the most famous in the world.  His delivery of business allowed him to travel New York to all areas that cover graffiti, including metro lines.&nb   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 2277 characters.]  Artist bio
