Shuo’s Red Guard Series is a focus point from which one may examine the history of the Cultural Revolution and the state of contemporary society simultaneously. Jiang Shuo transforms familiar imagery of the Cultural Revolution into mundane objects of contemporary popular culture, like Coca Cola, and McDonalds. Jiang Shuo’s Red Guard series converge the past, the present, and the future, simultaneously a warning as well as a work of hope for future generations.
