At the age of eighteen Josep Busquets Odena began training in drawing, painting and modeling. Then he enrolled in the painting and sculpture workshop-school of the Generalitat de Catalunya in Tarragona, where his teachers were the sculptor Joan Rebull, the painter Ignasi Malloli Casanova and the writer Josep Maria Capdevila i Balanzó. One of the artist's best known and most practised themes is the nude, linked to the female figure as a constant theme, to studies of the body and organic nature. This theme has been one of the most represented for several reasons such as: the possibility of being a unique model of personal creation, the realization of a work of volumes, a play of pose and resolution of rhythms, planes, correspondences and harmonies in three dimensions, and the search for the real relationship between light and shadow, fullness and emptiness.
