In a semi abstract manner in both oil and acrylic. O Connell explores color relationships from transparent washes to rich, heavy impasto moving easily through the genres of landscape, still life and nude.

His early artistic education came in the form of a B.Ed programme at Queens University which concentrated on practical studies.  At this time O Connell immersed himself in experimentation in a quest for his own personal style.  An early influence on O Connell was the work of TP Flanagan, both artists sharing a powerful connection with all that is landscape… structure, colour and movement.
