Born in 1944, Jean Pierre Pincemin composes geometric paintings with an architectural feel. As early as 1974, he creates polychrome rectangular bands whose shape reminds one of an impassable gate. The work executed in 1985, induces the observer to contemplation. The spectator is absorbed by the coloured areas that gradually seem to free themselves from the surface. Contrary to light colours that melt into the canvas, the green and the brown rectangles seem to move slowly towards the observer. Thus, the artist confers a certain dynamism to his apparently static work.
