Irmgard Horlbeck-Kappler was born in 1925. From 1940-43 she held an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman. From 1948-52 he studied at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art, and then until 1957 was a teacher at the Institute for Art Education at the University of Leipzig and from 1953 at the HGB. From 1968-85 she held a professorship. She was wife of the painter and graphic artist Günter Horlbeck.
