Franz Skarbina

Franz Skarbina (1849 - 1910) was active/lived in Germany.  Franz Skarbina is known for Impressionist style plein air paintings.

The painter, Franz Skarbina was born in Berlin in 1849. 

From 1865 to 1869, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, followed by several study trips before he attained a position as an assistant teacher at the Academy.  In 1888, he was finally appointed a full professor.

Together with Max Liebermann and Walter Leistikov he founded the artists' group 'Gruppe der XI' in 1892.  Their organization of a Munch exhibition created quite a scandal at the time. 

Skarbina was also co-founder of the Berlin Secession in 1898.  He was also awarded with the gold medal as a part of renowned art exhibitions in 1891 and in 1905.   ...  [Displaying 676 of 1029 characters.]  Artist bio
