Eugen Philipp Croissant was born in 1898 in Landau and was the son of the painter August Croissant and his talent was early discovered. He began studying architecture before he turned to art. He studied under Julius Diez and Willi Geiger and later at the academy for Fine Arts. His humoristic caricatures were published in the weekly newspapers "Fliegende Blätter", "Simplicissimus" and the Swiss "Nebelspalter".
