Edwin Aaron Penley, was baptised at St Paul, Southsea, Hampshire on 16 May 1828, son of William Henry Saulez Penley (c.1793-27 January 1866), an artist and drawing master, and his wife Margaretha née Callaghan (c.1798-1867), who married at Bloomsbury, London in 1816.

He was a nephew of artist Aaron Edwin Penley (1807-15 January 1870) with whom he is sometimes conflated. 

Edwin was a landscape painter and drawing master and in 1851, a 22 year old drawing master, living at Queen's Crescent, Reading, Berkshire with his parents William 57 and Margaretta 54 and they retained one servant.  He exhibited at the Suffolk Fine Art Association [q.v.] at Ipswich in 1850, three watercolours ‘Near Pen Mackno, North Wales’, ‘The Thames at Caversham, near Reading’ and ‘On the Brathay, Ambleside’ and also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Hibernian Academy.  He was in Tasmania in 1858 but by   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1807 characters.]  Artist bio
