Cliff Barnes is a painter of the present West. He works mostly with oil on canvas, and occasionally with paper and conte crayon. Barnes' interests lie mostly in the Indian reservations, ceremonials of the Navajos, old wagons, and ghost towns. He uses bold colors and broad strokes, and highlights with a palette knife whenever possible. Subjects are painted realistically, but he uses abstract backgrounds, such as random colors or an Indian rug design.

Barnes attended the Art Center School of Design in Los Angeles, and began his career as an architectural illustrator. He is a member of the American Indian and Cowboy Artist Society, has won gold awards at the show in Littleton, Colorado.
