Carlos Rolon is an artist born to a Puerto Rican family. He explores personal ideas related to inclusion, aspiration, and cultural identity through his artwork. His work is inspired by childhood memories of households adapting to new American middle-class lifestyles. He produces a hybrid language of exuberant flora paintings, sculpture, social practice, and site-specific installations composed of diverse materials that offer opportunities for self-reflection, rich symbolism, and community engagement. His work bridges the divide between public and private and explores how cultivated settings and social barriers operate in postcolonial spaces. The artist has had solo exhibitions at various museums and galleries and has exhibited in group shows at several public collections. He represented Ukraine in the 52nd Venice Biennale and is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation award for Painting and Sculpture.
