Alexej came from the Russian nobility.

In 1926, he studied painting at the Kiev Art Institute and the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts.

In 1945 Assaulenko fled to Holstein, where he settled in Plön.

Alexej von Assaulenko painted landscapes and portraits. In the years 65-68 he participated in archaeological expeditions in Syria, where he documented excavations.

The artist passed away in 1989.
