James Asher is a realistic, representational sculptor, painter, and printmaker of the present Indian cultures of Arizona and New Mexico.  He creates romanticized versions of "his" west.  In oil painting, he adds glazes to certain features because of the brilliance they add to the color and the look of true sunlight.

Asher grew up in farm country, and studied art from an early age.  He earned a science degree with a major in art from Central Missouri University, and also went to the Art Center School in Los Angeles.
