Aqjangajuk (Axangayu) Shaa (1937 - 2019) was active/lived in Nunavut / Canada.  Aqjangajuk Shaa is known for Inuit sculpture, carving, drawing, etching.

Aqjangajuk Shaa RCA (1937 - 2019)

A prominent Canadian Inuit* sculptor, draftsman and printmaker, Aqjangajuk Shaa (aka: Axangayu Shaa [see footnote for more]; Inuit Disc Number*: E7-1065) was born in Shartoweetuk camp near Cape Dorset*, Baffin Island and appears to have lived his entire life in or near Cape Dorset*. For over 50 years his works have been included in numerous important Inuit art exhibitions including the landmark “Sculpture of the Inuit: Masterworks of the Canadian Arctic”* held at the British Museum. Examples of his sculptures are in the permanent collections of many major museums including the National Gallery of Canada, the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of the American Indian, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2003 Shaa was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He is the sole subject of an article in the Canadian Encyclopedia. (1)(2)
