Mick O'Dea was born in Ennis, Co. Clare, and studied at NCAD and the University of Massachusetts. Known primarily as a portrait painter, he has exhibited with the Rubicon Gallery and Taylor Galleries, Dublin, Oireachtas and Independent Artists exhibitions, EVA in Limerick and with the RHA, of which he is a full member. He is also an elected member of Aosdána. In recent years he has worked extensively to encourage art-making in prisons.
