Born in Elsinore, California, Lawrence Macaray is a painter, illustrator and art educator. He earned a BA degree from Whittier College and an MA from California State University in Long Beach. From 1962 to 1988, he was Professor of Drawing and Painting at El Camino College.

He is author and illustrator of "Sketches from an Irish Detour, Yankee Doodlers" and illustrator of "Yarns and Tales from the Great Smokies", 1978.
