Josef Buche was an Austrian portrait and genre painter born in Vienna in 1848. He studied at the Academy in Vienna and was active in Innsbruck from 1881 to 1901.

Buche was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus from 1883 and created numerous portraits for the Austrian imperial family and the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. He was active in Vienna and Merano.
