Italo Giordani, 1882-1956, Active in both France and Italy, this impressionist painter of religious compositions, genre scenes, figures, landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and flowers was greatly influenced by Monticelli. At an early age, he left his native Sicily for Venice, where he painted his first views of the lagoon city. In 1908 and 1909, he went to Milan to complete his training with Virgil Cordes at the Brera Academy under Cesare Talon, where he developed his portrait technique. In 1910, he moved to Marseille for a time, where he painted Provençal views, notably numerous views of Martigues.
