Fred Wilson

Fred Wilson (Born 1954) is active/lives in New York.  Fred Wilson is known for Figure installation art, conceptualism.

Based in New York City where his studio is in an East Village loft, Fred Wilson is an African-American installation artist who explores with humorous and ironic metaphors of mining and excavation of forgotten ideas in museum archives.

Many of his themes have to do with his own feelings of being left out because of the color of his skin and his perception that black artists were not being exhibited in galleries and museums.

An exhibition, "Mining the Museum," for The Maryland Historical Society has become a model for the interaction of curators and museum audiences and won the 1993 Museum Association's Best Exhibition of the Year. In 2002, he was chosen to represent the USA at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003, the world's most prestigious international contemporary art exposition."
