Martin Disler was born on March 1, 1949 in Seewen, Switzerland.

In 1968, Disler was expelled from school for disciplinary reasons.

During the1970s, Disler did research on thematic and formal elements.   He worked with these elements during his entire artistic life.  Immense visual and intellectual knowledge of art, literature and music are reflected in Disler's works.  He is associated with the painting style Neue Wilde.  Disler married artists Agnes Barmettler and Irene Grundel.

During his career in the 70s and 80s, Disler worked in numerous cities in Europe and the United States including: Zurich, New York, Vienna, Paris, Harlingen, Milan, Engadin and Les Planchettes/ Jura.  Alongside artists such as Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente and Georg Baselitz he gained international attention.
