An important and influential multiple medium artist (painting, drafting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, video, performance), activist, writer, public speaker, educator, museum curator and leader in the aboriginal art community, Joane Cardinal-Schubert was born in Red Deer, Alberta and died in Calgary, Alberta, where she had lived for most of her life. A central figure in Canadian aboriginal art for the last two decades of her life, she was a member of a plethora of activist and art organizations including the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts*. In addition to numerous museum exhibitions across Canada, her works have been featured in exhibitions at important venues in the USA, France, Russia, Taiwan, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, Korea and elsewhere.
