Jean Gaston Mantel

Jean Gaston Mantel (1914 - 1995) was active/lived in France.  Jean Mantel is known for Scenes of society figures, horse-drawing carriage genteel society.

Jean Mantel studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

In 1936, he obtained the prize of the National Society of Fine Arts which allowed him to stay a year in Morocco. He moved to Rabat in a workshop made available to the laureates in the Kasbah of the Oudayas and worked in Meknes with Mattéo Brondy (1866-1944). Returning to his hometown in 1937, he presented his work and applied for a position as a drawing teacher in Morocco which he obtained in Rabat at the colleges of Orange trees. Forced to return to France during the Second World War, he hastened to return to Morocco in 1946 and was appointed professor in Rabat at the Lycée Gouraud.

He is the creator of numerous posters to promote Moroccan tourism and produced several slideshows and decorative panels: panels over ten meters long for the Hilton hotel in Rabat, and decorations for the Ministry of Tourism representing Moroccan festivals: the Atlas dancers, the Moussems or the Ahouachs, so many themes that ar   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1823 characters.]  Artist bio
