Esther Stocker is an Austrian artist known for her black and white pictures, sculptures, room installations, and construction-related art. She was born in Austria and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Eva Schlegel. She continued her studies at the Accademia di Belle Art in Milan and at the Art Center College in Pasadena. Her trademarks are black and white pictures, sculptures, room installations, and construction-related art. Minimalist systems of order form the structural basis of her paintings. She developed innumerable variations of grids of geometric shapes, while at the same time always subverting their strict set of rules. Esther Stocker's entire work revolves around perception-theoretical questions, the conditions and functional mechanisms of visual perception. She apparently shows us a strict order and at the same time makes us aware of its opposite. Her work is as precise as it is fragile, as stable as it is fleeting, and always insists on the ambiguity of seeing.
