Artist Biography & Facts
Maisie Campbell Napaltjarri

Maisie Campbell Napaltjarri (Born 1958) is active/lives in Australia.  Maisie Napaltjarri is known for Aboriginal painting.

Maisie Napaltjarri Campbell was born in 1958, near Haasts Bluff, in the south of the Central Desert. Like many Aborigines, Campbell has traveled a lot, including to Papunya where Geoffrey Bradon was located. Geoffrey was the key figure who led the Aboriginal pictorial movement in the desert in 1971. Later, She traveled to Kintore where she married the late Barney Campbell Tjakamarra. Interesting about Maisie is that she doesn’t seem to be influenced much artistically. She could have followed the path of her husband, a very great artist or the other Pintupi women, but she is closer to the style of Luritja and Aranda. Maisie Napaltjarri Campbell has an assertive style, quite neat but the care she brings to her paintings does not harm the feeling of energy that it gives off. Maisie also paints with conviction, trying to spread culture and knowledge. Campbell regrets that her children are not more interested in painting .
