Biography photo for Adolf Dietrich
Adolf Dietrich, who grew up in modest circumstances, grew up in the Thurgau in Berlingen on the Untersee, where he remained throughout his life.  He first worked as a knit weaver in the tricot factory Adolf Naegeli AG, later as a home and from 1910 as a forest worker and educated himself on the side - mostly on Sundays -  as a painter.  The home environment as well as his parents' house with a small garden and animals were the material for his pictures.  After initial setbacks, he managed to draw attention by means of illustration orders in the "Bodensee book" as well as smaller exhibitions.

The true discoverer of Adolf Dietrich is the Mannheim art dealer Herbert Tannenbaum, who arranged the first large successful solo exhibition in 1922.
