Theodore Major

Theodore Major (1908 - 1999) was active/lived in United Kingdom.  Theodore Major is known for Painting and cartoon drawings.

Theodore Major was born in Wigan.  He was essentially a self taught artist, although he studied at Wigan Art School between 1927-1932, and taught there between 1930-1950.  He founded The Wigan Arts Club in 1952.

He drew cartoons for The Daily Mail and The Manchester Guardian.  He shared exhibitions with his close contemporary L.S. Lowry.

Theodore Major bought the house next door to his as a store, he used the small front bedroom as a Studio.  He kept around 3,000 of his pictures back from sale, saying that they were painted for ordinary people, not money.  He used the house next door as a Gallery and the general public were welcome to visit his paintings for free.
