Silvia Baechli

Silvia Baechli (Born 1956) is active/lives in Switzerland.  Silvia Baechli is known for Line-based contemporary graphics, gouache, India ink, charcoal, oil pastels.

Silvia Bächli is a Swiss painter and photographer who was trained at the École d'arts appliqués in Basel and later at the École supérieure d'art visuel in Geneva. She was influenced by the artistic activity surrounding the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Kunsthalle Basel in the late 1970s and 1980s. Bächli helped create the nomadic and alternative project space Filiale Basel in 1981. 

Her artwork style is characterized by the influence of contemporary graphics and is based on the concept of the line. She explores the edges of the world in her drawings, focusing on details, fragments, reflections, and shadows. Bächli uses herself, her body, her life, her history, and her environment as a starting point for her work. She works mainly on white sheets of paper, using India ink, charcoal, oil pastels, and gouache in a palette ranging from pale grey to deep black.
