Richard W Mawdsley

Richard W. Mawdsley (Born 1945) is active/lives in Kansas.  Richard Mawdsley is known for Goldsmith; teaching.

Richard W. Mawdsley was born July 11, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas.  He earned a BSE at Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia in 1967 and a MFA at the Univ. of Kansas in 1969. Taught at Illinois State Univ. beginning in 1969 and at Southern Illinois Univ. in 1978.  He retired from Southern Illinois in 2004. Mawdsley is fascinated by the precious metals crafted in Europe centuries ago.  He preserves this tradition by making intricately designed and meticulously crafted objects and jewelry using precious metals and stones.  Mawdsley's works are also inspired by his childhood interest in machinery.  While spending summers on his grandfather's farm in Kansas, Mawdsley came across many old pieces of equipment, including a 1926 combine that has influenced the design and shape of many of his objects.
