Riaan van Zyl

Riaan van Zyl (20th Century) was active/lived in South Africa.  Riaan van Zyl is known for Painting.

Riaan van Zyl’s career is quickly gaining momentum, both in South Africa and internationally.  His work focuses on everyday objects, people and places, and invokes a drama reminiscent of early cinematography.  Compositionally, objects often overlap with a lovely progression of form and movement.  Layered amongst the forms are draftsmen-like lines, formulas and measurements, as if trying to quantify the movements and vast areas he captures.

The UNISA graduate recently held a solo exhibition titled ‘me•chan•i•cal m??kanik?l mechanical’ at The Hague (The Netherlands) in May 2014.  The exhibition featured works based on the idea ‘that we have gone from capturing and copying movement to analyzing the totality of how things move and work… the idea that life can be reduced to chemistry and physics (with) everything work(ing) together as a machine.’  The exhibition was a great success, providing a sold-out result for the up-and-coming   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1007 characters.]  Artist bio
