Pierre Henri Valenciennes

Pierre Henri Valenciennes (1750 - 1819) was active/lived in France.  Pierre Valenciennes is known for Painting.

This oil on paper is part of a series of studies made from nature, mostly in Italy, in the 1780s or at the beginning of the 19th century, when the artist was traveling the peninsula to stop in front of a valley, a bush, a tree trunk, and observe the changes "so sensitive and so astonishing" that the light produced on the forms. Our work, produced in the vicinity of the famous Lake Nemi, south-east of Rome, reflects the poetic pictorial writing of the master: his way of alternating the thicknesses of matter to introduce perspective, of qualifying his palette of greens to suggest light and shadow effects, or even this marvelous rendering on paper of the caress of the wind on the leaves.
