Paul Julian

Paul Hull Julian (1914 - 1995) was active/lived in California, Illinois.  Paul Julian is known for Figure, genre, portrait, mural.

Paul Hull Julian was born in Illinois on June 23, 1914.  Raised in an artistic home, Paul was the son of artist Esther Julian.  By 1922 he and his family had moved to Santa Barbara. His mother was his first painting teacher; he later studied with Lawrence Murphy, Millard Sheets, Belmore Brown, and at Chouinard Art Institute.  He continued living in Santa Barbara during the Depression and in 1942 was an employee of the Federal Art Project.  He was active in the Los Angeles art scene into the 1950s.  He died in Van Nuys, CA on September 5, 1995. 

Exhibited:  Oakland Art Gallery, 1936 (second prize), 1939; California State Fair, 1936 (first prize); Santa Cruz Art League, 1936, 1938; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939; Barker Brothers (Los Angeles), 1940; Montecito Country Club, 1940; Compton City Hall, 1941; California Watercolor Society, 1953-54.
