Maurice Barraud

Maurice Barraud (1889 - 1954) was active/lived in Switzerland.  Maurice Barraud is known for Figure, genre, still life.

At a young age, Maurice Barraud, together with his brother, Gustave François, who later also established himself as a painter, led a studio for advertising graphics. He also studied painting and modeling at the École des Beaux-Arts.

In 1914, he moved to painting and, together with his brother, Émile Bressler, Gustave Buchet and others, founded the artist group "Le Falot". Study trips took him to Brittany and to the south of France.

In the 1920s followed stays in Paris, Barcelona, Algiers, Rome, Venice and Sicily. When Barraud initially created mainly works influenced by literary works and dark figure figures from the life of the big city, his palette was increasingly brightened by the light of the mediterranean landscape, which was flooded with light. Thematically, he preferred the representation of women, whom he understood in various ways, individually and format-filling, as groups in interiors, as acts or in elegant wardrobe.
