Self-taught artist, Luigi Taddei, was born in Brè sopra Lugano, Switzerland on 27 August 1898 and died on 24 January 1992 at the age of 94 in Albonago. His family were emigrants: his father, Cristofor a bricklayer in Algeria, his brother Giuseppe “Pepp” an entrepreneur in Montevideo, Riccardo a bricklayer in California, Achille “Chìl” an entrepreneur in France and Romeo in Algeria.

In 1920 he obtained a Federal scholarship. During the younger years, he made many trips to study in Italy; however he made longer trips to Algeria, Morocco, Guatemala and Mexico.
For many years he was present at all the National art exhibitions, which make him known beyond the border of the canton where he already moves with affirmed fame.

In 1930, on the occasion of the Algeria’s centenary, he exhibited his work with the company of Argentine and Orientalists artists in Algiers, Tunis, Orano and Casablanca.
