Loren Barton

Loren Roberta Barton (1893 - 1975) was active/lived in California, Massachusetts.  Loren Barton is known for Town-landscape, portrait and genre painting, etching.

Born in Oxford, MA on Nov. 16, 1893 in the home of her great-aunt Clara Barton, founder of the Red Cross.  Loren came to Los Angeles with her family as a child and received her art training at USC and the ASL of Los Angeles under William Lees Judson and Rex Slinkard.

While in Europe in 1929, she met Perez Babcock whom she married.  The couple lived in Rome until 1937 and then returned to Los Angeles where she taught at the Chouinard School of Art.  She illustrated the books, Spanish Alta California and California in 1938.

Her last years were spent in Pomona as Mrs. Russell Miller.

She died in Claremont, CA on May 27, 1975.

The subjects of her paintings and prints include depictions of California during the Spanish rule, San Pedro's wharves, Chinatown genre, adobes, portraits, and scenes from her travels.
